From time to time I’ll be able to spend some time catching up on world events. (read: entertainment news, or happy puppy videos) and so as a public service if I really like what I found, I’ll share them with you.

  • I did not know, or I forgot, that there was going to be a ‘CHiPs’ reboot movie. In the same vain as ’21 Jumpstreet’, it looks like they are going full-on comedy with this one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the ’21 Jumpstreet’ movie so I have some expectations with this one. The trailer had me laughing in my chair at work, so that’s a good sign.
  • One of the shows the wife and I enjoy for the most part is ‘American Horror Story.’ Luckily, it has been renewed, but if they start to suck, this won’t be such a good thing.
  • Netflix has a new original film debuting on January 27th that sounds, well, interesting, is the first word that comes to mind. I’m only intrigued because Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who) is in it, and I am a fan of her work thus far. It might be work checking out, considering I’m spending so much time on Netflix these days anyway.
  • As of this past weekend, the top 10 domestic films at the box office were as follows:
    1. Hidden Figures
    2. Rogue One
    3. Sing
    4. Underworld: Blood Wars
    5. La La Land
    6. Passengers
    7. Why Him?
    8. Moana
    9. Fences
    10. Assassin’s Creed
From this list, the only one I have seen personally is ‘Moana.’ Wow. I’m kind of disappointed in myself. My nephew saw ‘Assassin’s Creed’ so I’m going to pick on it a little bit. He said that it sucked as bad as you would think, so it is only fitting that you know so far, domestically (US and CAN) it has grossed around $51M. Total gross, including international, brings the total to $155M so far. The production budget was reportedly $125M, so based on those figures alone, they are looking at a $30M profit. BUT .. when you start to take into account those line items that aren’t considered part of the production budget, that $30M starts to dwindle. To be honest, I don’t know what kind of line items that would be, but I don’t think that is a very good return on an investment. But who knows.
